Project to study advanced integration of sensors for small unmanned vehicles

PRESS RELEASE
January 10, 2007:

Ångström Aerospace Corporation from Uppsala has, together with Saab Microwave (SMW), Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and Swedish National Defence College (FHS), received a grant from VINNOVA, Swedish Defence Procurement Agency (FMV) and Swedish Emergency Management Agency to study an advanced sensor system for small unmanned vehicles.

"Ångström Aerospace Corporation is looking forward to lead this project together with our partners, Saab Microwave, Swedish Defence Research Agency and Swedish National Defence College. This system has a great potential to revolutionize the performance of small unmanned vehicles, such as microautonomous aeronautical vehicles (MAVs)” says Ångström Aerospace CEO Dr. Fredrik Bruhn.

The six month project will bring together unique microsystems-based packing technology from Ångström Aerospace Corporation and high performing radio frequency technology from FOI. Saab Microwave will contribute within system requirements as well as serving as technology evaluator. FHS will study implementations of the future product within defence and security.

“If the project demonstrates that it is possible to construct this type of system, then we will for example get improved possibilities to rescue people in earthquake areas and both supervise and protect soldiers” says brigadier general (ret.) Lennarth Pettersson, business developer in defense and security at Ångström Aerospace.
